GARAGE PAVILION

The Garage Pavilion was conceived as a modern counterpart to an existing shingle-style waterfront residence, designed to house the clients’ passions for automobiles, music, and wine while also functioning as a guest retreat and venue for philanthropic gatherings and community events.

The architecture establishes a dialogue between traditional and contemporary forms. Gabled rooflines and shingle detailing reference the primary residence, while the structure opens toward the waterfront as a transparent glass and steel pavilion. Inside, expansive glazing is balanced by a warm material palette of custom walnut paneling, creating spaces that feel both refined and inviting.

At the center of the pavilion, a glass car lift transforms the display of the clients’ collection into part of the architectural experience, connecting the lower garage directly to the primary gathering space above. A glass-enclosed wine wall rises vertically through the structure, serving as both centerpiece and backdrop, while a dedicated wine bar and guitar nook display rare instruments within custom walnut alcoves. A sculptural floating staircase weaves these elements together, linking the pavilion to the garage below and guiding movement throughout the space.

Blending craftsmanship, engineering, and hospitality, the Garage Pavilion reimagines the traditional accessory structure as a highly personal space for gathering, celebration, and collection.

ISLAND FARM - FIELD HOUSE

The Field House is a custom modern farmhouse that reinterprets the timeless character of New England shingle-style and Cape Cod architecture for the Pacific Northwest. Designed as a relaxed island retreat, the home brings together contemporary design, traditional materials, and a strong connection to the surrounding landscape.

The single-story residence is organized around a protected courtyard formed by the house, garage, and guest studio, creating comfortable outdoor living spaces sheltered from the island's prevailing winds. A shallow floor plan fills the interiors with natural light from both the east and west, while expansive porches, French doors, and generous decks create a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor living.

Natural cedar shingles, reclaimed timber beams, San Juan fieldstone, and steep gabled roofs give the home a timeless architectural character while supporting a warm, informal lifestyle. The Field House reflects Patrick Byrne Architects' approach to designing custom homes that are rooted in place, crafted with enduring materials, and tailored to the way families live and gather.
